Background

Established in 2005 by the School of Physics to encourage undergraduate student research in the area of Complex Systems. 

1. Background

a. Established in 2005 by the School of Physics to encourage undergraduate student research in the area of Complex Systems.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, or Australian Permanent Resident, and enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must be majoring in Physics.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit,
II. curriculum vitae, and
III. a personal statement detailing their interest in the area of complex systems and desire to undertake future research in this area.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee consisting of the Head of School in the School of Physics, and academic staff from the Complex Systems Group in the School of Physics, or their nominated delegates.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $1,500 and is paid as a one-off payment after the relevant census date.

b. The Scholarship cannot be deferred and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.

c. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

d. No other amount is payable.

5. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. withdraws from their physics major,
III. commences part-time study without prior approval,
IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
