CET student wins NSW International Student of the Year Award!

Kymia Wang was awarded the prestigious award of the NSW International Student of the Year Award in the ELICOS category, during an Awards Ceremony hosted by His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales at Government House in Sydney.
Additionally, Robert Chasse, CET’s Education Manager Services, was a finalist in the 2017 NSW International Student Community Engagement Award in the category Education Provider, for the CET Student Engagement Program. Find out more: NSW International Student Awards Press Release

The CET Team dazzles the English Australia Conference

The University of Sydney Centre for English Teaching was highly represented and commended during the 2017 English Australia Conference in Adelaide. This year, the conference focused on Empowering Global Citizens, a theme extremely relevant and close to the Centre’s values of ‘Connect, Empower and Transform’. Through its programs and initiatives, CET has been a passionate advocate of improving student’s English skills as well as preparing them for the global challenges of the world, their future studies and employment. CET welcomes 550 new students to the Centre and the University

The Centre for English Teaching has just welcomed over 550 new students to the Centre. This cohort is joining 400+ returning students, bringing the overall student population of the Centre to over 1,000 students, making it CET’s third largest intake. New students are entering CET’s pathway program of 15 and 36 weeks.

WHS | Mental Health First Aid Training

The Centre has recently completed a second Mental Health First Aid training by the Red Cross. CET now has a population of 35 staff members qualified and trained to assist students in need. The Centre plans to continue to provide the two-day training for staff in 2018.

CET Online | Update

  • The Graduate Programs team has released a full suite of instructional videos to support English teachers-in-training learn and teach essential features of English grammar. The videos are available for use on a dedicated YouTube channel
  • The CET MOOC Specialization on ‘Academic Skills for University Success’ has reached a new milestone with 33,359 total learners as of September 2017. Get started on the MOOCs here

CET Connect | Update from recent student surveys on student engagement and participation

  • The CET Connect App has 99% of active users, with 88% of students using the App every week to access events, their calendars and check their engagement points.
  • 68% of events featured in the App have been attended by CET students.
