Congratulations to CET Student, Jingya (Kymia) Wang for winning the 2017 NSW International Student of the Year Award in the ELICOS category!

Kymia was awarded the prestigious award during an Awards Ceremony hosted by His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales at Government House, Sydney.

Kymia was nominated by the Education Services team for her exceptional commitment to enhancing international students’ lives and focusing on the integration of fellow Chinese students. She is an inspirational role model to local and other international students and is passionate in helping new students settle in Sydney by easing their transition to a new country and by reducing their acculturative stress.

Kymia implemented an English tutorial program called “English Corner” which created a safe environment for international students to practice their English skills as well as meeting and interacting with local and other international students. This support network has been extremely helpful to students, especially new students who are often struggling with transitioning and understanding Australian culture.

Kymia was part of the CET Leaders Network, a leadership program which gives the opportunity to an elite group of 15 highly engaged students to organise events and activities for other CET students. The CET Leaders Network developed Kymia’s drive to help and support others and volunteer with the wider community.
