MySydney offers every eligible student* entry on a reduced ATAR, an $8,500 per annum scholarship for the duration of their undergraduate degree and a range of additional support. No separate application is required.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • a domestic student residing in an area listed in the bottom 25 percent according to Australian Bureau of Statistics Socio-Economic Index for Areas (SEIFA) Index of Education and Occupation (IEO) data based on the residential address you enter in your UAC undergraduate application*
  • applying as a new University of Sydney student for an undergraduate degree in Semester 1 or 2.

High school students and non-school leavers will both be eligible under the scheme.

*If you receive a notification from UAC that the residential address you entered in your UAC undergraduate application is identified by the Australian Bureau of Statistics as being in the lowest 25% of socio-economic disadvantage, this does not mean you meet the eligibility for MySydney. You must receive confirmation of your eligibility directly from the University of Sydney. 

How to apply 

You do not need to apply for MySydney. 

To find out if you're eligible for MySydney, place a University of Sydney course in your UAC preference list by the deadlines outlined below. Eligible students will receive eligibility advice by email the following week from the University of Sydney.

Applying for other scholarships

Although MySydney doesn’t require a separate application, if you are eligible for MySydney, you may also be eligible for a range of other scholarships including MySydney Accommodation Scholarships.

If you’re ineligible for MySydney you may be eligible for a range of other scholarships both equity and merit.

We recommend all students submit an application for scholarships at The University of Sydney through our centralised application form.

 

MySydney Entry Scheme FAQs

No, you do not need to apply or provide any documentation. You will be assessed on the information provided as part of your standard UAC application.

There is no deadline to be considered for MySydney. You must create a UAC application in time for an offer round that the University of Sydney participates in. Keep in mind that some courses do fill up in UAC December Round 2 and offers may not be made for all courses in all rounds.

Most of the MySydney ATARs are guaranteed for admission. However, some MySydney ATARs are indicative as noted by a ^ in the tables above.

Please note that some courses also include additional admission criteria that you must meet. See the MySydney course ATAR table above for more information.

Yes, you can receive one offer per UAC round.  

Yes, you can be considered for MySydney in all UAC offer rounds you are eligible to participate in. Keep in mind that some courses do fill up in UAC December Round 2 and offers may not be made for all courses in all rounds.

Unconditional offers are released for recent school leavers and non-recent school leavers at different times.  

Recent school leavers:

You will receive an unconditional offer in December Round 2 if you are eligible and have your MySydney course as your highest eligible preference.

Non-recent school leavers:

Unconditional offers are made starting from November for most of our courses. In most cases, if you have submitted a UAC application, and meet the eligibility requirements, you can be made an unconditional offer in the following UAC round. Some MySydney courses that have indicative ATARs or additional admissions criteria will not be offered until UAC December Round 2.

Current University of Sydney students are not eligible for MySydney. You will be considered for MySydney if you have started an undergraduate degree at another university if you make a UAC application to commence a new undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney.

In most cases you can apply to defer your MySydney offer, however, not all courses allow deferral. If your course cannot be deferred, your MySydney Scholarship cannot be deferred. You will need to reapply via UAC for the semester that you want to commence, and you would be considered for MySydney based on your new admission application.

For information on MySydney scholarship deferral, please email the Scholarships Office at scholarships.office@sydney.edu.au, including the following information:

  1. Email subject: Deferral request for MySydney Scholarships
  2. Your full name and student ID
  3. When you expect to return, I.e. which semester and year you expect to return.
  4. Reason to defer
  5. Any documentation you may provide to substantiate your request
  6. Approval that you have defer your course, or evidence that your course can be deferred.

MySydney Scholarship FAQs

Yes, once you have been made an offer to your course, your MySydney scholarship will become available in Sydney Student within 5 business days of your offer.

Whether you can accept your MySydney Scholarship with other scholarships will depend on each scholarship’s terms and conditions. In some cases, you will not be able to hold the MySydney Scholarship with other scholarships. You should refer to the terms and conditions of the scholarships you have been offered.

You can accept your MySydney Scholarship through the Sydney Student portal when you accept your offer. Look out for an “In-Tray" message subject "University of Sydney Scholarship Offer" and follow the prompts.

The annual payment will be paid in three instalments during the first year. An initial payment will be made at the start of Welcome Week (the week before Semester 1 starts) to the value of $1,000, a second payment will be made within 30 days after Semester 1 census date to the value of $3,250, the third payment will be made within 30 days after Semester 2 census date to the value of $4,250.

If you can defer your chosen course, you will also be able to defer your MySydney Scholarship. You will need to defer your course first and contact the Scholarships office by providing a reason of deferral for consideration. Please note that not all courses can be deferred. 

MySydney Scholarship recipients must submit an application for part-time study to the Scholarships Office for consideration.  In your submission, please provide reasons and expected duration for part time study.

The scholarship does not cover any postgraduate studies, such as a Master of Nursing or Doctor of Medicine, even if taken as part of a vertically integrated double degree.

The scholarship does not cover appended Honours degrees. The scholarship only covers Honours when it is a compulsory part of an undergraduate degree, such as the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).
