Overview

Mechanical ventilation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) (also known as extracorporeal life support (ECLS)) are fundamental therapies for critical care clinicians.

This Professional Certificate provides a unique education package for clinicians who want to gain expert knowledge in these areas. The easily accessible and engaging online format, in conjunction with a 1 day face to face workshop, makes it ideal for any doctor, anywhere to excel in a critical care work environment. The teaching is provided by some of Australia’s leading critical care professionals and emphasises knowledge and applications for practical use in emergency medicine, anaesthesia, pre-hospital, retrieval medicine and intensive care.

Admission criteria

Admission to the Sydney Professional Certificate in Intensive Care Medicine requires: 

  • A medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent, and 
  • Current medical registration in an Australian or New Zealand jurisdiction and current or prior employment as a medical practitioner in a clinical setting in an Australian or New Zealand jurisdiction.
