Our Industrial and Product Design specialisation is tailored towards mechanical engineers who have an interest in design, with a focus on product and industrial design.

The specialisation will explore areas including industrial design fundamentals, advanced materials and computer-aided manufacturing, with potential opportunities to expand further to examine the fundamentals of design thinking and product design.

It also allows you to undertake a multidisciplinary project, using your engineering knowledge and analytical skills to design and protype a product for human use, utilising the equipment within our Makerspace facilities.

Graduate opportunities

As a graduate of our Industrial and Product Design specialisation, you will possess a strong overview of the industrial and product design process, design thinking approaches, enhanced creativity and understanding of the importance of human-centred design practices in engineering.

You will develop the technical knowledge and skills to work closely with industrial designers as an engineer in various industries including product design and manufacturing, medical devices, consumer appliances, automotive industry, and others.

The specialisation will help you pursue a career as an engineer with the skills to help you work closely with industrial designers to design and develop products for human use.
