Play and Pedagogy in Early Childhood - EDMT5704

Year - 2020

An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the role of play in young children's lives, learning and development is essential for early childhood teachers. This unit introduces students to a range of theories of play and play-based pedagogy, and to contemporary research that shows the importance of play in ECE. Students will develop their understanding of the social, cultural, developmental and physical contexts for play. They will explore their role as advocates for, and facilitators of, play that is responsive to children's interests and needs. They will recognise the rights of all children to play, and to be active agents in their own play-based learning.
