By the end of the course, students will be expected to have completed and written up their MD Research Project (MD Final Report), and to have mastered presentation of their research in a succinct and appopriate way to an audience including experts and non-experts in the research field. Students' participation and performance in all academic tasks required in this unit of study must be graded as 'satisfactory' in order to progress to Stage 3, Year 4.
Lectures, seminars, tutorials, on-line learning tasks.
This will comprise: (a) effective participation in small-group/tutorial learning sessions including Milestone meetings, (b) satisfactory completion of online learning tasks, (c) satisfactory progress in their MD Research Project and completion of associated Milestone and progress checkpoint tasks, (d) satisfactory completion of Milestone 6 - a satisfactory presentation of the MD Research Project by each student at a Milstone 6 meeting, and (e) submission of their MD Project Final Report. For MD Milestone 6, students will be required to give an oral presentation on their work to an audience comprising other medical students and staff. This seminar will be assessed by their Research Tutor and two independent examiners.
Designated staff known as Research Tutors will monitor students' progress in accordance with scheduled milestones. Students' performance must be graded as 'satisfactory' in all Milestones in Stage 3, Year 3 to progress to Stage 3, Year 4.
