This program combines the Master of International Business and the Master of Logistics Management. Both degrees are studied concurrently and will be awarded after a minimum of 2.5 years of full-time study.

Degree structure and progression

Degree requirements

To be awarded the Master of International Business and the Master of Logistics Management, students complete 18 units of study (108 credit points), comprising:

(i) For the Master of International Business component:

  • four international business core units of study (24 credit points);
  • four international business elective units of study (24 credit points);
  • an international business project comprising two units of study (12 credit points).

(ii) For the Master of Logistics Management component:

  • four logistics management core units of study (24 credit points)
  • four logistics management elective units of study (24 credit points).

# Students seeking to undertake these units must submit a waiver application to the Student Information Office to ensure they have relevant prerequisite studies or knowledge.

International Business project

The international business project is designed to be completed at the end of the program over a five to seven week period. The two business project units of study will be offered in intensive mode during summer, winter and the first half of the following semester.

The two business project units of study (12 credit points) are as follows:

  • MIBS6005 International Business Project A
  • MIBS6006 International Business Project B

Logistics Management core units of study

Students complete the foundation unit, TPTM5001, in their first semester of enrolment and the capstone unit, TPTM6170, in their final semester of enrolment in the Logistics Management component of the combined degree.

# Students demonstrating extensive practical experience in the logistics industry may apply for a waiver from the requirement to complete TPTM5001 Logistics and Supply Chain Management. This allows another Logistics Management unit of study to be substituted for TPTM5001. Students should send their resume with a covering email outlining their experience to the Postgraduate Coordinator for Logistics Management, Professor David Walters (david.walters@sydney.edu.au).

Degree progression

The following table illustrates the degree progression for a student enrolled in the Master of Logistics Management and Master of International Business on a full-time basis commencing in Semester 1 and undertaking four units of study (24 credit points) per semester, plus two units of study (12 credit points) for the business project at the end of the program, completing in 2.5 years.

Students complete the Master of Logistics Management component first and then complete the Master of International Business component so as to facilitate progressive learning and enrich the group learning experience through progression in the same student cohort.

Note: In this example, 'MIB' refers to the 'Master of International Business' and 'MLM' refers to the 'Master of Logistics Management'.

These master's degrees are professional master's courses, as defined by the Coursework Rule.

4 Admission to candidature

(1)
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants ranked on merit in accordance with the following criteria:
(a)
a bachelor's degree, graduate diploma, graduate certificate or equivalent at an institution approved by the Business School and graded at a standard acceptable to the Business School; and/or where applicable:
(b)
relevant work experience requirements as determined by the Business School;
(c)
satisfaction of the English language requirements; and
(d)
any other minimum standards specified by the Business School.

5 Requirements for award

(1)
The units of study that may be taken for the course are set out in the Table of postgraduate units of study: International Business and the Table of postgraduate units of study: Logistics Management.
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Master of International Business and Master of Logistics Management, candidates must complete 108 credit points, including:
(a)
24 credit points of logistics management core units of study; and
(b)
24 credit points of logistics management elective units of study; and
(c)
24 credit points of international business core units of study; and
(d)
24 credit points of international business elective units of study; and
(e)
a 12 credit point international business project.
(3)
In this combined degree, units completed for the Master of Logistics Management component cannot be counted towards the Master of International Business component.

6 Progression rules

(1)
Unless otherwise permitted, candidates may only commence the Logistics Management units once they have completed a minimum of 48 credit points for the Master of International Business.
(2)
Unless otherwise permitted, candidates must complete the units of study in a prescribed sequence as specified by the Business School.

7 Course transfer

A candidate may abandon the combined program and elect to complete either the Master of International Business or the Master of Logistics Management in accordance with the resolutions governing that degree.

8 Transitional provisions

(1)
These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2012.
(2)
Candidates who commenced prior to 1 January, 2012 must complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement, provided that requirements are completed by 1 January, 2017. The Business School may specify a later date for completion or specify alternative requirements for completion of candidatures that extend beyond this time.
