This program combines the Master of Logistics Management and the Master of Transport Management. Both degrees are studied concurrently and will be awarded after a minimum of two years of full-time study.

The Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies in the University of Sydney Business School is an Australian Key Centre of Excellence and a world class research institute with strong industry links and a key role in developing innovative ideas in transportation policy and professional practice (sydney.edu.au/business/itls). Our programs focus on policy, strategic planning and management; developing specialist skills in: applying concepts, techniques and principles that underlie transport management; understanding the relationships between government agencies and the private sector in the provision, financing, operation and maintenance of transport networks; using contemporary modelling techniques and data collection processes to solve problems in transport management, planning and analysis; and managing the impacts of future trends in transportation.

Degree structure

To be awarded the Master of Logistics Management and Master of Transport Management, students complete 16 units of study (96 credit points), comprising:

  • three logistics management core units of study (18 credit points)
  • three transport management core units of study (18 credit points)
  • ten logistics management and transport management elective units of study (60 credit points).

(i) Logistics Management

  • TPTM5001 Logistics and Supply Chain Management (foundation unit - must be completed in first semester of study)#

  • TPTM6170 Value Chain Management (capstone unit - must be completed in final semester of study).

# Students demonstrating extensive practical experience in the logistics industry may apply to substitute an alternative logistics management unit of study for TPTM5001 Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Students should send their resume with a covering email outlining their experience to the Postgraduate Coordinator for Logistics Management, Dr Jyotirmoyee Bhattacharjya (jyotirmoyee.bhattacharjya@sydney.edu.au).

(ii) Transport Management

These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2000 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Resolutions of the Faculty, the University of Sydney (Student Appeals against Academic Decisions) Rule 2006 (as amended) and the Academic Board policies on Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism.

The master's degrees in these resolutions are professional master's courses as defined by the Coursework Rule.

4 Admission to candidature

(1)
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants ranked on merit in accordance with the following criteria:
(a)
a bachelor's degree, graduate diploma, graduate certificate or equivalent at an institution approved by the Business School and graded at a standard acceptable to the Business School; and/or where applicable:
(b)
relevant work experience requirements as determined by the Business School; and
(c)
satisfaction of the English language requirements; and
(d)
any other minimum standards specified by the Business School.

5 Requirements for award

(1)
The units of study that may be taken for the course are set out in the Table of postgraduate units of study: Master of Transport Management and Master of Logistics Management.
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Master of Logistics Management and Master of Transport Management program, candidates must complete 96 credit points, comprising:
(a)
18 credit points of Logistics Management core units of study; and
(b)
18 credit points of Transport Management core units of study; and
(c)
30 credit points of Logistics Management elective units of study; and
(d)
30 credit points of Transport Management elective units of study.
(3)
In this combined degree, units completed for the Master of Logistics Management component cannot be counted towards the transport management component.

6 Course transfer

A candidate may abandon the combined program and elect to complete either the Master of Logistics Management or the Master of Transport Management in accordance with the resolutions governing that degree.

7 Transitional provisions

(1)
These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2012.
(2)
Candidates who commenced prior to 1 January, 2012 must complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement, provided that requirements are completed by 1 January, 2017. The Business School may specify a later date for completion or specify alternative requirements for completion of candidatures that extend beyond this time.
