Master of Professional Accounting (12 unit program)

Note: This course is only available for students commencing in Semester 1, 2013 (March).

Degree structure

To be awarded the Master of Professional Accounting, students complete 12 units of study (72 credit points)#, comprising:

  • eight core units of study (48 credit points)
  • four elective units of study (24 credit points)

# Students who upon graduation, wish to apply for Associate Membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) must complete, in addition to the eight compulsory units of study, certain other units of study as electives in the Master of Professional Accounting program. Please refer to the information under the heading 'Professional accreditation in accounting requirements' for details of these required units of study.

Students select four elective units of study (24 credit points) from the following options:

* Not offered for 2013.

^ High-performing students who have completed at least 24 credit points of study in the program may be eligible to replace an elective with BUSS6500 Industry Placement, if selected for work placement on competitive merit.

Elective units to meet professional accreditation in accounting requirements

The Master of Professional Accounting (12 unit program) is accredited with both CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA), providing that in addition to the eight core units of study, the following units of study are chosen as electives:

  • CLAW6026 Taxation Law and Practice #
  • QBUS5002 Quantitative Methods for Accounting
  • BUSS5001 Firms, Markets and Business Management

AND one of the following:

  • ACCT6014 Designing Accounting Systems; OR
  • INFS5000 Accounting Information Systems.

# CPA Australia allows students to either complete taxation studies at university or to undertake this as an elective within their professional level studies (CPA program) after graduation.
