Transport Management programs - Course structures

Course structures


Master of Transport Management

To be awarded the Master of Transport Management, students complete units of study totalling 60 credit points, comprising:

  • 42 credit points in core units of study, including foundation, advanced and a capstone units; and
  • 18 credit points in elective units of study.


Graduate Diploma in Transport Management

To be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Transport Management, students complete units of study totalling 36 credit points, comprising:

  • 24 credit points in core units of study, comprising foundation and advanced units; and
  • 12 credit points in elective units of study.


Graduate Certificate in Transport Management

To be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Transport Management, students complete 24 credit points in core units of study, comprising foundation and advanced units.

Core units of study


(i) Foundation

Students must complete the following foundation units of study (12 credit points):

  • ITLS5100 Transport and Infrastructure Foundations (must be completed in first semester of study)
  • ITLS5200 Quantitative Logistics and Transport.


(ii) Advanced

Students in the master’s degree must complete all the following advanced units of study (24 credit points). Students in the graduate diploma and graduate certificate complete the advanced units: ITLS6101 and ITLS6106 (12 credit points).

  • ITLS6101 Global Freight Logistics Management
  • ITLS6102 Strategic Transport Planning
  • ITLS6103 Sustainable Transport Policy
  • ITLS6106 Infrastructure Appraisal.


(iii) Capstone (Master's degree only)

Students in the master’s degree must complete the six-credit point capstone unit of study in their final semester of study:

  • ITLS6190 Transport and Infrastructure Systems.

Elective units of study

Students enrolled in the Transport Management courses choose their elective units as follows:

  • Master's degree: 18 credit points in elective units of study (three units)
  • Graduate diploma: 12 credit points in elective units of study (two units).

  • ITLS6403 Cases in Global Transport and Logistics
  • ITLS6500 Decision Making on Mega Projects
  • ITLS6501 Infrastructure Financing
  • ITLS6502 Infrastructure Management Case Studies *
  • ITLS6900 Research Case Study I (Master’s students only and departmental permission required)
  • ITLS6901 Research Case Study II (Master’s students only and departmental permission required)
  • BUSS6500 Industry Placement (Master’s students only and departmental permission required).

* Not offered in 2016.

# Note. ITLS6102 and ITLS6103 are elective for the graduate diploma only. Students in the master's degree must complete these units as core units.
