Marine Science

Study in the discipline of Marine Science is offered as an interdisciplinary major. Units of study in this major are available at standard and advanced level.

Program structure and content

The University of Sydney Institute of Marine Science (USIMS) provides for undergraduate units of study of a transdisciplinary nature in the marine sciences at the Intermediate, Senior and Honours levels. Staff from the School of Life and Environmental Sciences and the School of Geosciences teach these units.

First year planning Marine Science major

Recommended: To complete a Marine Science major the minimum requirement is 24 credit points of units listed under Table 1 for Marine Science, including BIOL3013/3913 and at least 6 credit points of GEOS3XXX. To prepare for this, it is recommended that a student complete 12 credit points of Junior Biology and 12 credit points of Junior Geosciences.

Requirements for a major

For a major in Marine Science, the minimum requirement is 24 credit points from senior units listed in this subject area, including BIOL3013/3913 and at least 6 credit points of GEOS3XXX.

Honours

Students undertaking Honours do so in specific projects in biological science or geoscience.
