These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2010 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Resolutions of the Faculty, the University of Sydney (Student Appeals against Academic Decisions) Rule 2006 (as amended) and the Academic Board policies on Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism.Up to date versions of all such documents are available from the Policy Register: http://sydney.edu.au/policies.

2 Attendance pattern

The attendance pattern for this course is full time or part time according to the student choice.

3 Master's type

The master's degree in these resolutions is an Advanced learning master's course, as defined by the Coursework Policy.

4 Embedded courses in this sequence

(1)
The embedded courses in this sequence are:
(a)
the Graduate Diploma in Design
(b)
the Master of Design
(2)
Only the highest award completed will be conferred.

5 Admission to candidature

(1)
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants in the order which complete applications are received, according to the admissions criteria listed below.
(2)
Admission to the Graduate Diploma in Design requires:
(a)
a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification.
(3)
Admission to the Master of Design requires:
(a)
a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification with a weighted average mark of 65; or
(b)
completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate diploma with a weighted average mark of 70.
(4)
In exceptional circumstances the Head of School and Dean may admit applicants without these qualifications but whose evidence of experience and achievement is deemed to be equivalent.
(5)
If candidates wish to complete the double specialisation Master of Design (Specialisation) (Specialisation), they must enrol in the 96 credit point degree.

6 Requirements for award

(1)
The units of study that may be taken for the course are set out in the relevant degree table.
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Design, a candidate must complete 48 credit points including:
(a)
18 credit points of core foundational units of study;
(b)
18 credit points of core advanced units of study; and
(c)
12 credit points of elective units of study.
(3)
To qualify for the award of the Master of Design with a single specialisation, a candidate must complete 72 credit points, including:
(a)
18 credit points of core foundational units of study;
(b)
18 credit points of core advanced units of study;
(c)
12 credit points of capstone unit of study; and
(d)
24 credit points of elective units of study.
(4)
To qualify for the award of Master of Design with two specialisations, a candidate must complete 96 credit points, including:
(a)
18 credit points of core foundational units of study:
(b)
36 credit points of core advanced units of study;
(c)
12 credit points of capstone unit of study; and
(d)
30 credit points of elective units of study.

7 Specialisations

(1)
Completion of a specialisation is a requirement of the course.
(2)
The available specialisations are:
(a)
Design Innovation
(b)
Strategic Design

8 Course transfer

A candidate for the master's degree may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a Graduate Diploma from this embedded sequence, with approval of the Head of School and Dean, and provided the requirements of the Graduate Diploma have been met.
