Master of Music (Music Education)
The Master of Music (Music Education) degree can be completed in either two years of full-time study or three to four years of part-time study.
The first year of the course focusses on the development of research skills and the initial stages of the research project (literature review, ethics application/s and methodology).
In the second year, the focus is on collection of data, completion of the research and writing of the thesis.
Candidature includes
- Completion of normally 24 credit points of appropriate research method and elective units of study as set out below.
- Supervised research on an approved topic
- Confirmation presentation in the first year of candidature
- Annual progress review (APR)
- Submission of a thesis of 25,000-40,000 words embodying the results of the research
Units of study
Candidates normally complete the following units of study:
- 12 credit points of units of study in research methods
- 12 credit points of elective units of study chosen from the list of graduate electives in the Faculty Handbook. With approval, one or more postgraduate electives may be pursued in another Faculty or University School.
Candidates should consult the Master of Music (Music Education) Program Leader or the Associate Dean (Research Education) for advice on unit of study choices.
