Public Administration

The Master of Public Administration, Graduate Diploma in Public Administration, and Graduate Certificate of Public Administration are no longer accepting new applicants. Current students should refer to the Handbook for the year in which they commenced for details of their course requirements.

Coursework

Public Administration coursework programs at the Graduate School of Government are executive management and leadership programs and are designed for governments, departments, agencies and non-government organisations (NGO) to meet their workforce planning needs.

The courses offered are public sector professional development programs for public sector and NGO managers to develop the right capabilities to become effective leaders in a modern public service or NGO environment. The programs develop leaders with knowledge grounded in policy, public sector management, strategic government and public expenditure management within a whole of government framework.

Awards and requirements

Please refer to the course rules in this Handbook for information on the specific admission requirements for different coursework award courses.

Executive Master of Public Administration
To qualify for the award of the Executive Master of Public Administration a candidate must complete 72 credit points, including:

  • 42 credit points of core units of study
  • 12 credit points of capstone units of study, and
  • a maximum of 18 credit points of elective units of study

Master of Public Administration
To qualify for the award of the Master of Public Administration a candidate must complete 48 credit points, including:

  • 24 credit points of core units of study; and
  • a 6 credit point work based or internship project; and
  • 18 credit points of elective units of study.

Graduate Diploma in Public Administration
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Public Administration a candidate must complete 36 credit points, including:

  • 24 credit points of core units of study; and
  • a 6 credit point work based or internship project; and
  • 6 credit points of elective unit of study.

Graduate Certificate in Public Administration
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Certificate in Public Administration a candidate must complete 24 credit points, including:

  • 12-24 credit points of core units of study; and
  • a maximum of 12 credit points of elective units of study.
