Table A - Digital Business

The Digital Business specialisation allows students to gain an understanding of how businesses operate in the digital world. Students will learn about the crucial role modern digital technologies play in shaping new business models, disrupting industries and organising and transforming business operations.

Students acquire practical skills and techniques to carry out an effective business analysis with a view to improving business operations or rethinking business models through the application of digital technologies.

The specialisation also enables students to gain an understanding of the role of technologies, such a business information systems, in facilitating business transformation and organisational change in increasingly competitive market environments.

Units of study in this area cover digital business innovation, agile business methods, business process management, digital transformation, digital work practices and information infrastructures.

Requirements for a Digital Business specialisation

To achieve a specialisation in Digital Business within the Master of Commerce and Master of Commerce (Extension), students must complete 30 credit points in units of study comprising:

  • 6 credit points of Table A - Foundational units of study; and
  • 24 credit points of Table A - Digital Business selective units of study.

Students completing this specialisation to meet the requirements for the Master of Commerce or as their compulsory specialisation for the Master of Commerce (Extension) would complete a 6 credit point capstone unit from Table A – Capstone units of study for their degree in the same subject area as their specialisation.

Students completing this specialisation as their optional second specialisation for the Master of Commerce (Extension) are not required to complete a capstone unit of study.

7 Evaluate the operations of a business and suggest and design solutions and improvements enabled by digital technology.
8 Identify current trends in business information systems and ability to assess their implications for managers, organisations, employees and other stakeholders.
9 Explain advanced principles, theories and applications in digital commerce, digital business management, business data analytics and information infrastructures.
