Marine Science

Honours unit of study table (Table A)

Honours in Marine Science is a one-year program available via an appended or an embedded or an integrated Honours, depending on the degree a student is enrolled in. The program allows students to pursue an area of specific interest from within the broad multi-disciplinary world of marine science, with disciplines ranging from Biology to Geology. Topics include coastal management and ecosystem services, climate change, marine ecology and pollution studies.

Students will complete a 36-credit point research project in collaboration with their supervisor(s) in which they will develop and carry out research in an immersive experience. Students will develop their capacity to design, conduct and critically evaluate scientific studies and build highly sought-after skills in areas including quantitative science (coding, statistical analysis), geographic information systems, fieldwork and laboratory studies. Students will also complete two 6-credit point coursework units that will aid in the development of fundamental research and communication skills.

Admittance into the program is determined by the Faculty of Science, as well as the Marine Science Honours coordinator, and is available to students with a major in relevant to their research project, for example, Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Geography, Environmental Science etc.

Honours Coordinator:
