Ida Bagus Ketut Rai (1924–)

Rai went to school for three years, and was literate in Malay. After World War Two, he became a peddler and a shadow puppet master of the simplified wayang lemah.

Rai had never met Bonnet and Spies, and was not part of their Pita Maha artists' collective. He had only been producing paintings for less than a year when he was interviewed by Kaler. There are eight pictures by him in the Bateson-Mead Commission.  (H. Geertz 1994: 110)
