About the scholarship, Prof Simon Bronitt, Dean and Head of Sydney Law School said this:
“Top Postgraduate Programs overlooked by Sydney Law Graduates – don’t forget your alma mater! As a law student in the 1980s, the thought of postgraduate study never crossed my mind until one of my lecturers, fresh from postgraduate study himself, suggested I should consider this option. Pursuit of your own set of interests, asking and defining your own thesis questions, and sharing that intellectual journey with outstanding mentors, provides an opportunity to develop new skills and even open up future careers never previously considered such as policy work, law reform or academia. "
"The newly reframed Ivan Roberts Scholarship supports our own students to choose a path less travelled, and pursue their postgraduate passions right here in Sydney Law School.”
