Criminology

Broaden your knowledge of criminal justice

Gain a critical understanding of criminology and learn from some of Australia’s leading criminologists.

What is criminology?

Designed for anyone wanting to further their career in criminal justice, our criminology program addresses contemporary crime and criminal justice issues in theory, policy and practice. You’ll scrutinise crime in modern Australia and compare it with a wide range of local and global community concerns.

Taught in partnership with the Sydney Institute of Criminology, the program recognises the importance of research, policy and applied learning, and is useful if you work with public and private criminal justice and social welfare agencies with a focus on crime prevention, forensic psychology, public policy, social research and legal practice.

Postgraduate study in criminology is suitable for non-legal professionals such as police officers, correctional officers, forensic experts, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, probation and parole officers, youth workers, policy officers and journalists, as well as legal professionals such as solicitors, barristers, magistrates and judges.

"I enrolled in a Master of Criminology and did an internship towards the end of my study. This provided me with an invaluable opportunity to see how crime prevention strategies were implemented in real-life situations, bringing to life a lot of the theory I was studying at the time. This degree was part of a career change and it allowed me to network and ultimately get a great job in my chosen field."
