The Clinical Teacher Training (CTT) program is designed to provide health professionals with opportunities to develop skills in teaching, assessment, feedback, mentorship, and journal club presentation.

The Clinical Teacher Training (CTT) program is designed to provide health professionals with opportunities to develop skills in teaching, assessment, feedback, mentorship, and journal club presentation.  Delivered as a completely online modular program, participants will be provided with theoretical background and opportunities to apply new knowledge and concepts. We welcome participation from health professionals who currently teach University of Sydney students.

Course Outline

The program aims to:

  • Develop the teaching and assessment skills required for health professionals to participate in teaching and assessment programs
  • Develop the skills required of health professionals to provide effective feedback to students, peers and colleagues
  • Assist health professionals to recognise opportunities for teaching and learning within clinical settings, and contribute to the knowledge and skill development of others
  • Provide and encourage opportunities for interprofessional learning and team collaboration that can be applied to professional practice
  • Develop skills required to contribute to Journal Clubs, including selection of manuscripts, presentation requirements, and critical appraisal
  • Explore the goals of mentorship, and the key elements of effective mentoring

Module 2:   Feedback in the clinical setting

Module 3:   Planning and delivering a teaching session

Module 4:   Facilitating small group learning in the health professions

Module 5:   Key tips for teaching and assessment in the clinical setting

Module 6:   Teaching a skill

Module 7:   Teaching effective clinical handover

Module 8:   Team-based learning: design, facilitation

Module 9:   Journal Club and critical appraisal

Module 10:  Mentorship

Course dates

Monday 23 May to Friday 17 June 2022 (weekly asynchronous activities requiring approx 6hrs per week)

A zoom session will be held on Wednesday 1 June 5.30-7.30pm (Note: Attendance at the Zoom session, where participations will teach a healthcare topic is compulsory for course completion)

Delivery method The CTT Program is an online course delivered across four weeks with both asynchronous & synchronous activities:
Assessment

The course requires 6 hours of participation per week, which is monitored. Ensure you are able to set aside time for participation before registering. Participants will be formatively assessed on participation in online activities, including a Zoom workshop. At completion of the program, you will receive a certificate, as evidence of formal teacher training.
