The Chau Chak Wing Museum is located on Gadigal land in the heart of the University of Sydney. The Museum staff unanimously support the ‘Yes’ vote, to provide an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament protected by the Constitution. The Voice, as envisaged by the 2017 Uluru Statement from the Heart, will empower community-led and culturally informed consultations, bring a deeper understanding of difference, and inspire change. These processes are central to our work with the University’s historic collection, which has its roots in colonial history. We recognise the purposefulness of embracing change through the Voice – it will foster greater collaboration with Indigenous communities to reimagine what our museum can be.
