Students: to understand assessment and exam principles for their course.

Academic staff and affiliates: to guide in designing and marking assessment tasks.

Professional staff: to guide the administration of assessments. This includes for managing exams, reasonable adjustments, special consideration, release of results, and appeals.

Unit of study coordinators will specify if, and which, artificial intelligence (AI) tools are permitted for each assessment and how their use must be acknowledged.

All 1000 and 2000 level units include an early feedback task before the census date. These tasks give students feedback and connect them with support services if required.

They typically have low or no weight (0%). Special consideration is not available for tasks worth 0% of the total unit of study mark.

  • Most exams are between 1 and 2.5 hours long, with an extra 10 minutes of reading time (30 minutes for the Law School).
  • All exams and in-semester tests are invigilated.
  • A single exam cannot have an assessment weighting greater than 60% of the total marks for the unit of study.

Check the unit of study outline. But generally:

  • A penalty of 5% of the maximum awardable marks is applied for each calendar day that work is late.
  • Work submitted more than 10 calendar days late will receive a mark of zero.

Students can apply for special consideration for:

  • illness
  • injury
  • misadventure.

Applications should:

  • generally be lodged within 3 working days after the assessment
  • attach a professional practitioner certificate or statutory declaration.

Approved applications may result in:

  • a replacement assessment
  • an extension of time (typically up to 20 working days)
  • reweighting/averaging (for regular, minor assessments)
  • an alternative assessment (if you miss more than 30% of regular assessment components).
