All University community members and visitors: to understand how they can safely use our lands, including for demonstrations.

University land is all or part of any building or structure, and any land used or occupied in connection with a building or structure.

  • Our lands are private property, but the public is welcomed.
  • Users must act with respect for people, privacy, and property.
  • Access to buildings, roads, and grounds must always be safe and unobstructed, ensuring people and vehicles can move freely.
  • Registered assistance animals are always permitted. Other companion animals may be brought onto our lands if kept under effective control (e.g., leashed dogs).

  • Activities that create safety risks are unacceptable. These include violence, harassment, obstructing safe access, and dumping rubbish.
  • University operations must not be significantly disrupted.
  • Users must not leave personal property unattended, except in some areas.

  • Demonstrations by staff and students are permitted as a legitimate exercise of freedom of speech, if they comply with this Policy and applicable laws.
  • Organisers must notify Central Operations Services as soon as possible using the online form.
  • Demonstrations must be orderly and peaceful and held in open spaces (not inside buildings). They must not interfere with safety, damage property, block access, or unreasonably disrupt University operations or movement.
  • Protective Services staff monitor and manage demonstrations, and their reasonable directions must be followed.

  • A breach occurs if you act inconsistently with the Policy, assist in a breach, or promote unauthorised conduct.
  • Breaches of this policy may also constitute offences under NSW legislation.
  • Breaches can lead to Protective Services staff directing users to leave or removing property. Refusing to comply with a direction to leave or re-entering after a direction to leave may result in NSW Police involvement.
