Synopsis

The Lambert Initiative http://sydney.edu.au/science/lambert/) is a research program at the University of Sydney dedicated to exploring the medicinal potential of cannabis and the cannabinoids.  We are looking to recruit up to ten new PhD students in 2017 and are offering top-up scholarships of $10,000 p.a. to APA (or equivalent) scholarship recipients who join our team based at the Brain and Mind Centre.   A wide range of chemistry, cellular and preclinical PhD projects are available for consideration that involve the development and early stage evaluation of cannabis-based treatments for conditions such as of epilepsy, pain, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, neurodegenerative conditions and cancer. Clinical projects are also available that may involve areas such as surveys of cannabis users, human psychopharmacology, drug policy and clinical trials of novel cannabinoids. Projects will involve supervision by the Academic Director (Professor McGregor) and/or Associate Directors of the Lambert Initiative or their specialist collaborators. This is an exciting opportunity for ambitious and enthusiastic graduate students to contribute to a fast-paced program of research at the frontiers of medical science.

Additional information

Professor Iain McGregor is Professor of Psychopharmacology, NHMRC Principal Research Fellow and Director of the Psychopharmacology Laboratory at the University of Sydney. Iain has a strong interest in the area of medicinal cannabis and cannabinoids and is Academic Director at the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics at the University of Sydney, Australia. The Lambert Initiative was established in 2015 with a $33.7 million philanthropic gift and aims to fast track research into the therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids in various disease states.
