Dynamic X-ray analysis of fibre reinforced concrete composites: from pouring to ultimate loads

Summary

The entire life cycle of a concrete member will be studied using dynamic X-ray tomography. This project will investigate the influence of mixing and pouring on the load carrying capacity of fibre reinforced concrete composites.

Supervisors

Dr Benjy Marks, Dr Daniel Dias-da-Costa.

Research location

Civil Engineering

Program type

PHD

Synopsis

This project will examine the pouring and casting process of fibre reinforced concrete composites using state of the art dynamic X-ray analysis to track fibre orientation and distribution within members over time. This information will be used to advance constitutive models of the specimens, and the link between specimen behaviour and member behaviour will be made by upscaling knowledge of the rheological behaviour during pouring.
