Traumatic spinal surgery procedures, timing and patient outcomes across NSW

Summary

A prospective observational study has recruited patients across NSW with acute traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) over 3 years. Patient data and follow up interviews have been augmented with record linkage administrative data. The access to and timing of acute decompressive surgery in patients with TSCI has been shown to have critical impact on their outcomes. The timing of surgery in relation to their outcomes in these patients has not been previously described across NSW. The student will conduct a literature review, undertake data analysis and interpretation and publish the findings. Students with acute interest in neuroscience and / or surgical outcomes are encouraged to apply and will have opportunity to experience surgical cases as part of their study
