Mechanisms of Transgenerational Epigenetic inheritance

We are interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms that allow a phenomenon called epigenetic inheritance to occur: that is, the transmission of non-genetic information from parent to offspring. This project uses cutting edge technology combined with classic genetics in model organisms to try and answer this fundamental question.

Program type

The project will use CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology to make targeted alterations to the model organism's genome. The mutants generated, combined with novel sequencing techniques, proteomics and high resolution microscopy will deliver insights into the way epigenetic inheritance works.

We will also be collaborating with other groups to perform structural biology assays to define the structure of novel proteins that we are studying.

- Ability to perform independently and/or with minimal supervision;
- Ability to undertake certain physical tasks (e.g. heavy lifting);
- Ability to undertake observatory, sensory and communication tasks;
- Ability to spend time at remote sites (e.g. One Tree Island, Narrabri and Camden);
- Ability to work in confined spaces or at heights;
- Ability to operate heavy machinery (e.g. farming equipment);
- Hold or acquire an Australian driver’s licence;
- Hold a current scuba diving license;
