The aim of this research is to better understand the association between psychosocial work conditions and risk for medication use in working adults
The United Nation estimates that by 2050, one in three people living in the developed world will be over 60. As our demography continues to shift, a key imperative will be to prolong paid workforce participation and reduce the dependence of the non-working population on the working population to a manageable level. Of particular concern is the growing problem of work-related stress around the world that affects not only the health and well-being of employees, but also the productivity of organisations. While the association between psychosocial work stress and various health outcomes have been reported, there have been limited studies investigating the impact of job strain on medication use. The proposed research program will investigate the association between psychosocial work stress and risk of medication use in middle and older age workers.
