There is currently no evidence source (in Australia or globally) that has appraised and summarised the evidence on the efficacy and safety of common pain drugs to treat pain in one document. Existing systematic reviews tend to focus on one drug and one pain condition. What is lacking is a comprehensive overview, or ‘Pain Medicines Road Map', which ‘brings it all together'.
The focus of this Masters or PhD opportunity will be to evaluate the efficacy and safety of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), muscle relaxants, gabapentinoids (pregablin and gabapentin), and glucocorticoids for any pain condition. The successful candidate will carry out four overview reviews (one for each drug class). Previous experience in carrying out systematic reviews is recommended but not mandatory. A detailed project plan will be discussed with the supervisors.
