Nineteenth-century British literature and culture

Summary

My main research area is nineteenth-century British literature and culture, with a particular focus on the ethics and aesthetics of prose. I have written on literary style in the novel; on virtue theory in modern moral philosophy; and on Victorian artistic and cultural criticism. Before coming to Sydney, I was a Lecturer in History and Literature at Harvard, where I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees. In addition, I hold an M.Phil in Contemporary European Studies from Cambridge (on the history and politics of the European Union) and was once a policy analyst for the Government of Canada.
