Classics and Ancient History, School of Humanities (SOH)
The main focus of my work is Virgil’s epic poem, the Aeneid. I am interested in Virgil’s representation of character and the ways in which he uses characters to talk about the past and future of the Roman people. I also work on the commentary tradition on Virgil, from late antiquity to the present, and on the influence of the Aeneid on later writing, from Renaissance Italy, to the Golden Age of detective fiction and beyond.
