Peace and Conflict Studies

Summary

Since completing my PhD in 2002, I have developed my academic career in peace and conflict studies with the University of Sydney, serving currently as Chair of the Discipline of Peace and Conflict Studies, and previously as the Deputy Director of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, Postgraduate Research Coordinator, Undergraduate Coordinator and Master of Peace and Conflict Studies Degree Director.

My research for the past 20 years has been concerned with how survivors of genocide and other mass violence deal with the past in order to build peace for the future, focusing on questions of transitional justice, peace building, healing and reconciliation from the perspective of locally affected populations. I have considered questions of reconciliation and healing in the context of Australian Indigenous/settler relations and survivors of institutionalised child sexual abuse, and the role of community-based psychosocial programs for people from a refugee background living in Australia.
