Summary

Associate Professor Cathie Burgess coordinates and lectures in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Aboriginal Community Engagement, Learning from Country and the Leadership in Aboriginal Education. She has extensive teaching and leadership experience in secondary schools with expertise in HSIE, Aboriginal Studies, Aboriginal curriculum and literacy. As Aboriginal Studies Association NSW Vice President and Life Member, and through ongoing research projects in schools, Cathie maintains strong connections with schools across the state and advocates for Aboriginal Studies at local and national levels. These experiences have culminated in ground-breaking teacher education research and teacher professional learning workshops where Aboriginal community-led practice provides foundational knowledge and skills for teaching and learning. Research methodologies include narrative inquiry, culturally responsive and critical Indigenous research including standpoint theory.
