Novel Properties of Semiconductor Nanostructures by Strain Engineering

Summary

This project aims to understand the novel properties of nanostructured semiconductors under strain by advanced characterisations and simulations.

Supervisor

Associate Professor Rongkun Zheng.

Research location

School of Physics

Program type

PHD

Synopsis

Semiconductor nanostructures show distinct properties from their bulk counterparts under stain. This project aims to understand these novel properties by advanced characterizations and simulations. it is not only of great research importance, but also opened a new window for novel nanodevice designing, taking the advantage of strong coupling between strain and physical properties.

- Ability to perform independently and/or with minimal supervision;
- Ability to undertake certain physical tasks (e.g. heavy lifting);
- Ability to undertake observatory, sensory and communication tasks;
- Ability to spend time at remote sites (e.g. One Tree Island, Narrabri and Camden);
- Ability to work in confined spaces or at heights;
- Ability to operate heavy machinery (e.g. farming equipment);
- Hold or acquire an Australian driver’s licence;
- Hold a current scuba diving license;
