Prevention of athletic knee injuries

Summary

The aim of this project is to evaluate the effectiveness of knee injury prevention programs that are tailored to athletes' neuromuscular deficits.

Supervisors

Professor Evangelos Pappas, Dr Milena Simic.

Research location

Program type

Masters/PHD

Synopsis

Anterior cruciate ligament tear is a serious yet preventable athletic injury. Emerging evidence suggests that athletes at high risk for knee injury demonstrate poor trunk control, high knee valgus, side-to-side asymmetries and muscle imbalances. In this project, athletes demonstrating these deficits will be identified and enrolled in injury prevention programs. Clinical, biomechanical and epidemiological methods will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the injury prevention programs.
