Examining social cognition in dementia syndromes and with healthy ageing

Summary

This project examines how abilities which we usually take for granted, such as recognizing how someone else is feeling, and being able to empathise with them, can be affected in people with younger-onset dementia. As a component of this project, these abilities will also be examined in healthy aging to examine how our social cognition skills develop or decline, across the lifespan.

Synopsis

My research aims to examine the abilities which underpin our capacity to engage in complex human social interactions. The work has both clinical and theoretical implication and aims to answer questions such as: How can we diagnose dementia? How can we improve the quality of life for people with dementia? What is the neurobiological basis of emotion recognition? Empathy? My research combines neuropsychological assessment, psychophysiology (eyetracking, facial EMG, skin conductance) and advanced neuroimaging to address these questions.

  • Hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Meet initial and ongoing immunisation requirements (e.g. Q-Fever, Vaccinia virus, Hepatitis, etc.)
