Health and Nutrition in Masters Athletes

Summary

Masters athletes (MA) are a relatively under-researched group, and while some international data exists, it is often sport-specific, across nationalities, or dated. The physiological effects of the normal ageing process along with age- or lifestyle-associated health conditions may complicate the sports performance needs of individual MAs. We have recently undertaken survey work at the Australian Masters Games and the Pan Pacific Masters Games around nutrition-related chronic conditions in MA. This work provides a platform for several research opportunities for PhD candidates who are dietitians interested in working in sports nutrition and/or masters athletes.
