Exploring the landscape of clinical trials

Summary

Clinical trials are essential to determine best medical practice and advance clinical care. Registries of clinical trials, such as the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR), offer an insight to the clinical trials landscape. The ANZCTR, hosted by the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, is an online register of clinical trials being undertaken in Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere. It includes trials from the full spectrum of therapeutic areas of pharmaceuticals, surgical procedures, preventive measures, lifestyle, devices, treatment and rehabilitation strategies and complementary therapies. The ANZCTR collects information on trial characteristics such as the conditions studied, the trial design, type of studied interventions, and funding source. This information can be used to explore clinical trial activity to help clinicians, industry, universities and others in the health care sector to fund, plan, and conduct the most promising and needed trials.

The successful candidate can be involved in choosing a focus area of their interest and develop a proposal based on knowledge, experience and skill set.

Additional Information

Interested candidates should hold post graduate qualifications in research methods, such as Masters of Epidemiology, Biostatistics or Public Health. Experience in research and/or previous experience in healthcare or a related field would be beneficial.
