Catalytic micro-combustion

Summary

In this project, we study the microkinetics of methane/natural gas oxidation over catalysts using quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, laboratory experiment and kinetic modelling. A particular focus of the research is to understand the mechanism of formation of NOx in catalytic combustion.

Synopsis

The combustion group at the University of Sydney is developing catalytic micro-combustors to provide process heat and for catalytic partial oxidation of fuels. This is part of our world-leading research activity in the development of miniaturised chemical plant. Our research on these combustors is leading to the creation of advanced kinetic models for the homogeneous/ heterogeneous reactions occurring in catalytic combustion.
