This study aims to determine what the cultural influences are on Vitamin D status in East Asian migrants. About 100 young and older Asian women migrants will be recruited from Chinese community. Blood samples will be collected to measure Vitamin D status. The participants are required to complete two questionnaires to explore their attitudes towards sunlight and exercise and their acculturation level. Individual and in-depth interviews will be then conducted with about 40 women of the initial sample to elaborate these cultural issues. This is a cross-disciplinary project that spans four faculties (Medicine, Health Science, Nursing and Fox & Chase Cancer Centre, Philadelphia, USA) with diverse expertise.
