About Dr Christopher Coady
I’m fascinated by the way cultures construct notions of musical authenticity
Christopher Coady’s primary research interests lie in the mediation of 1950s cool jazz and Third Stream music, the impact and development of African-American vernacular theory on the study of jazz and more broadly, the politics of performing jazz outside the United States
Areas of recent supervision include:
· an assessment of non-Western philosophy’s impact on contemporary saxophone repertoire
· the effect of early saxophone pedagogical material on the promotion of the instrument
· an examination of rhythmic dissonance and consonance in Intelligent Dance Music
