About Dr Ian Johnston

My research focuses on how failures in regulating the immune system inside the central nervous system can cause psychological diseases. For instance, abnormal function of immune cells within the CNS can cause impairments in memory and thinking, can cause chronic pain, and appears to be important for motivational impairments such as addiction. By studying these abnormal immune processes, we can discover new and safe treatments for many psychological diseases.
