About Associate Professor Goetz Richter

At the Sydney Conservatorium, he supervises postgraduate doctoral and master’s students, and he teaches a large class of tertiary and pre-tertiary performance students. His students include prize winners at national and international competitions, and many graduates from his class hold positions in leading international orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Sydney and Melbourne Symphonies, Macau Symphony and others. Goetz was a leader in the reinvention of working conditions for orchestral musicians in Australia in the 1990s, following the Australian Government’s ‘Creative Nation’ initiative and the subsequent divestment of orchestras from the ABC. He continues to serve orchestras in a number of capacities, including as a member of the board of directors of the Sydney Symphony.
