About Dr Susan McLennan
Understanding the mechanism in the aim to effect a cure: especially in the field of diabetes and its complications.
Dr McLennan is a well respected scientist, with many years laboratory experience. She has successfully supervised laboratory based PhD, Masters and Honours students and has many publications in well respected journals in the diabetes field as well as national in international collaborations.
Dr McLennan has actively researched diabetic complications since 1980. Her principal area of expertise is the role of the MMP/TIMP system in diabetes micro-vascular complications. She has more than 40 publications in refereed international journals, including the highest impact journals in the diabetes field. Her research achievements include:
- Identification of a role for decreased matrix degradation via the matrix metalloproteinases in diabetic complications in particular diabetic nephropathy.
- Identification role played by matrix glycation in regulation of matrix metalloproteinase activities.
