Evaluating a revised Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale for use with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Lower Literacy Patients with Cancer.

This study aims to evaluate a version of the revised Edmonton Symptom Assessment scale, which uses pictographs (simple line drawings) to convey the question and response options of the scale. 

In this study you will be asked to: 
1. Complete a survey (online or given a paper copy of the survey),
2. Complete the pictorial version of the revised Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale and;
3. Participate in a semi-structured interview

Your involvement should take no more than 40 minutes of your time. 

By participating in the interview, participants will be compensated for your travel and parking costs.


You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Are aged 18 years and older 
  • Have low English health literacy levels or from a culturally and linguistically diverse background
  • Have existing or previous cancer experience 
  • Are able to provide informed consent
