Sydney University dipped out of the Sydney Cup men’s hockey competition with their 2-1 loss to Moorebank Liverpool in the qualifying final at the weekend.

Sydney University had finished second to UNSW at the end of the competition proper, with Briars, Glebe, Moorebank Liverpool and Sutherland making up the top six.

The preliminary finals will see Briars take on UNSW and Moorebank Liverpool up against Sutherland, with the winners to meet in the grand final.

Meanwhile, Sydney University’s Division Seven side earned a grand final berth with their 1-nil major semi-final win over Macquarie University at the weekend.

The Students have a week off to prepare for the season decider, while Macquarie University and St George Randwick battle out the final.
