After four rounds Sydney University Women’s two Premier Hockey sides are both undefeated and each sit alone on top of the table.

First grade have started the year stronger than last year with four wins from as many matches. Impressively the side has only conceded one goal in four games and scored an amazing 18 goals against some tough opposition. The first grade side has defeated Esquires and, who will likely be top four sides in 2011.

Performances have been strong across the entire squad, including some very good individual performances by Lou Matthews, Lizzy Maister, as well as Sports Scholarship athletes Nina Khoury and Jamaya Ferguson.

This week first grade meets Moorebank Liverpool who has been the top side in the Women’s Metro competition for a number of years. Sydney University welcomes back Matilhda Carmichael and Nicole King, who have just returned from the Under 18’s nationals, where NSW lost in a Penalty stroke off.

The Second grade side, who were undefeated through the rounds in 2010, are also undefeated after four rounds in 2011. The side has had some impressive results against the Glebe and UTS First grade sides, as well as the Briars and Esquires Second grade sides.

The team also sits at the top of the table and will be playing Moorebank this week as well, who have won three from four so far this year.

There have been strong performances by the majority of the side, especially scholarship holders Annabel Probert, Sophie Boyle, Kate Johnston and Lucy Fitzgerald.

The games against Moorebank this week will be at the Olympic Stadium at Homebush. First grade will play at midday with Second grade following at 1.30pm.
