Course resolutions

The course resolutions detailed in this page apply to all courses included in the table below under section 1 (course codes).

These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Integrity Policy 2022 and the Academic Integrity Procedures 2022. 2 Attendance pattern

The attendance pattern for this course is full time only.

3 Master's type

The master's degree in these resolutions is a professional master's course.

4 Admission to candidature

(1) With approval from the Delegated Authority, available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admissions criteria.

(2) Admission to the degree requires a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification, with at least an average result of Credit. The degree must include successful completion within the last 10 years of:

(a) 12 credit points of junior chemistry, or equivalent; and

(b) 12 credit points of junior human biology, or equivalent; and

(c) 12 credit points of intermediate or senior level Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology, or equivalent; and

(d) 12 credit points of intermediate or senior level Human Physiology, or equivalent; and

(e) 6 credit points of intermediate or senior level Nutrition Science, or equivalent; and

(f) 6 credit points of intermediate or senior level Food Science or equivalent.

5 Requirements for award

(1) The units of study that may be taken for the course are set out in the table for the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics.

(2) To qualify for the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics a candidate must complete a prescribed program of 96 credit points, including:

(a) 48 credit points of first year units of study; and

(b) 24 credit points being the dietetics training placement; and

(c) 24 credit points being the Nutrition Research Project.

6 Requirements for students undertaking clinical placements

(1) Certificate of competency in CPR

Students must provide proof they hold an Australian current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate prior to attending their placement and that it is valid for the duration of the placement..

(2) Student clearance for clinical placements

The NSW Ministry of Health requires that all students obtain clearance in order to undertake clinical placements. This involves a criminal record check.

(3) Immunisation

Students must have evidence of vaccinations and immunisation against certain infectious diseases prior to undertaking clinical placements. The requirements are consistent with Australian public health policy and NHMRC guidelines.

(4) Working with Children check

Students undertaking 'child-related' placements as part of their course are subject to the requirements of the NSW Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 and the Working with Children Procedures 2014.

(5) NSW Health Records and Information Privacy Act (2002)

Students must familiarise themselves with the content of the NSW Health Privacy Management Plan and comply with the NSW Ministry of Health Code of Conduct, NSW Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 and Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.

7 Satisfactory progress

(1) All candidates must successfully complete the training placement.

(2) Candidates who fail the training placement once will be subject to the academic progression requirements set out in the Coursework Policy.

(3) Candidates who fail the training placement a second time will be required to show good cause why they should be permitted to continue their enrolment, as specified in the Coursework Policy.

(4) Candidates who fail the training placement a third time will have their candidature terminated and will be permanently excluded from re-enrolling in the course.

8 Transitional provisions

(1) These resolutions apply to persons who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2023.
